The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has responded to allegations of assault and detention of journalists in the West Bank, stating that the conduct of its personnel in the incident was not in line with its standards and would be investigated.
In a statement posted on X, IDF international spokesperson Nadav Shoshani said, “The soldiers’ conduct and statements in this incident do not represent the IDF, go against what is expected of IDF soldiers and will be investigated."
The response comes after Jeremy Diamond, a journalist based in Jaruselam, alleged that Israeli soldiers assaulted his photojournalist and detained his team for two hours while they were covering a reported settler attack in the West Bank.
Addressing the sequence of events, the IDF spokesperson said action was taken immediately after the report surfaced. “In real time, after receiving the report of the incident, we acted to resolve the issue ASAP. I apologized privately, and I will say it again—this shouldn’t have happened. Our job is to maintain law and order, among that is allowing for freedom of the press."
The IDF’s statement acknowledges the seriousness of the incident while reiterating its commitment to maintaining order and ensuring press freedom, even as it launches an investigation into the conduct of the soldiers involved.
