Judge of High Court of Karnataka S. Sunil Dutt Yadav has underscored the transformative role of the Constitution as a living document that safeguards the rights and dignity of every citizen, particularly the marginalised and the vulnerable.
Inaugurating the 12th State-Level Kannada Moot Court Competition organised by Karnataka State Law University in Hubballi on Saturday, he said that legal education must extend beyond the study of statutes and precedents to engage meaningfully with contemporary societal challenges.
Referring to electoral governance, he urged aspiring lawyers to critically examine issues relating to voter registration, migration, electoral roll management, and technological challenges in the electoral process, and to contribute towards evolving effective legal and institutional solutions.
Emphasising the evolving stature of the legal profession, he noted that law had emerged as one of the most sought-after disciplines in higher education.
He advised students to cultivate professional integrity, intellectual discipline, ethical commitment, and a sustained habit of studying landmark judicial pronouncements.
Presiding over the inaugural ceremony, Vice-Chancellor of KSLU C. Basavaraju said that moot court competitions served as a vital bridge between theoretical legal education and practical advocacy. Such platforms equip students with the analytical, research, and advocacy skills necessary for a successful legal career, he said.
He called upon future members of the Bar to employ their knowledge and skills in advancing social justice and ensuring meaningful access to legal remedies for the underprivileged.
Aspiring legal professionals from across the State are competing in the two-day event.
