Students stole the show with cultural programmes depicting patriotism, unity and tradition during the Independence Day celebrations at Railway Mini Stadium here on Friday (August 15).
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mohit Sonakiya, who participated in the celebrations, hoisted the National Flag, and extended I-Day greetings to railway officers, employees, trade union leaders and their family members on the occasion.
Mr. Mohit Sonakiya, along with Senior Divisional Security Commissioner (Sr. DSC) Shanmuga Vadivel, inspected the parade contingents organised by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Speaking on the occasion, the DRM said the Vijayawada railway division ranked 10th at national-level in freight loading. The division has also been honoured with 12 best performance shields, including the prestigious overall efficiency shields, during the recent railway week celebrations.
Highlighting the financial and operational performance of the division, Mr. Mohit Sonakiya said freight loading in July 2025 reached 3.114 million tonnes, marking 21.45% increase over last year.
Later, the DRM presented medals and certificates to 41 meritorious children from Jack and Jill School, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Kendriya Vidyalaya (Vijayawada) and ICON Public High School in quiz, poster making and cultural programmes organised under ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
Additional DRM (Operations) Srinivasa Rao Konda, officers of various branches, along with their families participated in the I-Day celebrations.
