A hot axle halted the Vande Bharat Express to Bengaluru. Passengers were rerouted safely on other trains; Indian Railways ensured full support and refunds

Among the most prestigious trains operated by Indian Railways, the Vande Bharat Express has captured the admiration of passengers nationwide. Known for its semi-high-speed service and modern amenities, the train offers a unique and comfortable travel experience.

However, an unexpected incident recently disrupted the smooth journey of the Dharwad-Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 20662), surprising both passengers and railway staff.

The event occurred On June 27, Friday, around 3:30 pm, when the train was en route to Bengaluru. As it approached Amravati Colony, an LC gatekeeper spotted something unusual in Coach C4, prompting the loco pilot to bring the train to an immediate halt at Davangere station.

Railway officials later confirmed that the issue was caused by a hot axle, a rare mechanical fault which can lead to severe consequences if undetected. The train was halted for a detailed inspection, and in line with safety protocols, further travel was suspended.

Indian Railways responded swiftly to ensure passenger safety and convenience. The affected passengers were rerouted to Bengaluru using alternative trains. According to South Western Railway, 502 passengers were transferred via the Jan Shatabdi Express (Train No. 12080) and the Jodhpur Express (Train No. 16507).

To minimise inconvenience, food and refreshments were distributed at RS Kere station, and help desks were set up at KSR Bengaluru (SBC) and Yeshwanthpur (YPR) stations to assist passengers upon arrival. Furthermore, railway authorities assured that passengers who were moved to alternative trains would receive a refund for any excess fare. The refund process is set to begin upon their arrival in Bengaluru.

The timely detection of the hot axle prevented any major mishap. Indian Railways has expressed regret over the disruption and thanked passengers for their cooperation. They reiterated their commitment to making passenger safety and comfort a top priority.
