Discom ramps up 32 substations to tackle summer load

Officials said rising population, new residential and commercial projects, and industrial expansion have driven up power demand

Noida: With power demand touching nearly 2,700MW and complaints of overloading mounting across the city, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) is increasing the capacity of 32 substations by installing additional transformers of 5 and 10 MVA (megavolt-ampere).Once completed, this will benefit over 50,000 residents. Work is underway in several areas, including sectors 79, 58, 62 (C-Block), 6, 80, 18, 16, 124, 84, and 38.According to officials, the project is being undertaken under the SCADA scheme. Here, 10 MVA transformers are being installed to replace the existing 5 MVA ones. This ensures a stable supply and prevents outages, even during peak demand.Officials said rising population, new residential and commercial projects, and industrial expansion have driven up power demand.

To keep pace, they are strengthening the infrastructure by replacing old transformers with higher-capacity ones.“Ensuring uninterrupted supply to consumers during summer is a priority. To support this, we are increasing the capacity of power lines and substations, with funding already approved. Approximately three dozen substations are being upgraded with additional capacity transformers,” said Superintending Engineer (Technical) Vivek Kumar Patel.
