With political heat rising ahead of the crucial Assam Assembly elections, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed confidence that voters in Assam are looking for change and will vote against the BJP.

Terming it a “curious election” for Assam, Mr. Shivakumar said the Congress senses a strong anti-incumbency mood and claimed that voters would bring the party back to power.

During his visit to Guwahati, Mr. Shivakumar offered prayers at the revered Kamakhya temple.

"The people need a change, and they will vote against the BJP. We are confident that Congress will come back to power,” he said, while speaking to reporters in Bengaluru.

Mr. Shivakumar announced that party leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Bhupesh Baghel, would campaign in Assam as part of the party’s outreach efforts.
