A man was caught sleeping on railway tracks at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai on Monday afternoon, bringing train movement to a halt.

The man, who appeared to be intoxicated, was lying on Platform 1 tracks around 3 pm when an incoming train had to stop just in time to avoid an accident.

Commuters shouted and waved to alert him as the train slowed and honked repeatedly. The man, reportedly under the influence, remained unfazed and continued sleeping under a white bedsheet.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing shocked onlookers as the train approached just metres from the sleeping man.

Meanwhile, authorities later vacated the man from the tracks, and normal train operations resumed. A case has been registered against him under Section 145 of the Railways Act. The identity of the individual has not been made public so far.
