Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif’s now deleted post, in which he called Israel “evil and a curse for humanity" have raised several questions, with some even wondering if it was “drunk posting", ahead of the peace talks in Islamabad.

Asif had on Thursday called Israel “evil" and a “curse for humanity" for attacking Lebanon amid a US-Iran ceasefire, drawing a strong rebuttal from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In a now-deleted post on X, Asif claimed that as “peace talks are underway in Islamabad, genocide is being committed in Lebanon".

“Innocent citizens are being killed by Israel, first Gaza, then Iran and now Lebanon, bloodletting continues unabated," he wrote.

“I hope and pray that the people who created this cancerous state on Palestinian land to get rid of European Jews [sic] burn in hell," Asif added.

Raising doubts, Mario Nawfal, a Lebanese-Australian entrepreneur, business influencer, podcast host, and political commentator, asked on X: “Pakistan’s Defense Minister deleted his post calling Israel “evil and a curse for humanity" hours after it was posted. The excuse being floated is that he was under the influence when he published it."

“What’s worse: the Defense Minister of a nuclear-powered country that’s hosting peace talks between the U.S and Iran is drunk posting, or he’s stone cold sober and sh*t posting the most inflammatory thing he can think of for engagement," he asked.

The US-Iran peace talks

Pakistan is currently hosting high-stakes peace negotiations in Islamabad between the United States and Iran. The talks, which officially begin on Saturday, April 11, 2026, aim to convert a fragile two-week ceasefire into a lasting peace following the “Iran War" that broke out in early 2024.

The Islamabad Serena Hotel has been requisitioned by the Pakistani government and turned into a high-security diplomatic zone for the duration of the talks. Led by Vice President J.D. Vance, alongside envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Expected to include Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Pakistan is acting as a “shuttle mediator," with the two sides expected to remain in separate rooms while proposals are exchanged through intermediaries.

The talks follow a conditional two-week ceasefire agreed upon on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, after Pakistan worked behind the scenes to de-escalate tensions.
