EDII, Mizoram plan new institute to boost entrepreneurship

Aizawl: In a bid to bolster entrepreneurship in Mizoram, Sunil Shukla, director general of Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), met Mizoram CM Lalduhoma on Thursday. The high-level discussion, held at the chief minister’s office in Aizawl, focused on the establishment of Mizoram Entrepreneurship Development Institute (MEDI), said an official statement.Shukla proposed that the state govt provide land for the institute, which could be funded through central schemes and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The proposed MEDI aims to empower women and students by enhancing their entrepreneurial skills.The institute’s initial five-year plan includes a focus on entrepreneurship, skill training, start-up incubation, and mentoring. Shukla also outlined a vision for MEDI to develop its own campus within eight years.CM Lalduhoma emphasized the need for a coordinated approach, suggesting the formation of a committee to facilitate the project’s implementation. The initiative requires collaboration across multiple departments, he said.Established in 1983, EDII is headquartered in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and operates Entrepreneurship Development Centres across several states. The meeting was attended by secretary to the CM Vanlaldina Fanai and OSD to the CM R Lalrodingi.
