Elderly couple found dead in locked house

Times News NetworkBhopal: A couple in their 60s were found dead inside their locked house in Sudama Nagar under the Aishbagh police station limits on Friday night, after tenants living on the first floor alerted police upon noticing a foul smell emanating from the house.Police identified the deceased as Hemant and Shakuntala, both aged over 60. Preliminary investigation revealed that Hemant’s body was found lying on a bed, while Shakuntala was found on a sofa in the ground-floor portion of the house where the couple lived.According to police, the couple had rented out the first floor of their house to college students. Around 9 pm on Friday, one of the tenants went downstairs to pay his rent. When repeated knocks on the door went unanswered, he noticed a foul smell coming from inside and dialled 112.A police team reached the spot, broke open the door and recovered the bodies. The exact cause and time of death will be ascertained after the post-mortem examination, police said, adding that further investigations are underway.
