Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry will not be eligible to receive any of the end-of-the-season awards for the ongoing season after he was ruled out of yet more games this season due to injury.
The 37-year-old, who has been sidelined since Jan 30, will be out for an additional 10 days due to a knee injury and is set to miss at least 5 more GSW games.
Curry’s absence from the the Warriors’ fixture against Boston Celtic on Friday will be his 17th missed game of the campaign, and missing one more game would make him ineligible for the awards at the end of the year.
Curry is slated to miss GSW’s games against Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans, Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Lakers, and if given the current timeline of his return, he could be back in the team to face the Los Angeles Lakers in a big-ticket event.
Curry’s injury is another blow for the GSW, who ae dealing with the absence of Jimmy Butler sidelined due to an Achilles injury, but were boosted by the return of Kristaps Porzingis from an injury and is expected to make his debut for the side from San Francisco.
The league’s rules requires players to appear in at least 65 games, and play for over 20 minutes in at least 63 of them, to be deemed eligible for the individual awards or be named in the All-NBA team for the year.
Curry joins a long list of decorated names, including LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, Tyrese Haliburton and Jalen Williams, in being ineligible for the end of the season awards this year due to the stipulations mentioned.
