Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired the final meeting of the Union Cabinet at the South Block in New Delhi, marking the end of an era for the British-era Secretariat building.

Following this meeting, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) officially shifted to a new complex, ‘Seva Teerth’, as part of the Central Vista redevelopment project.

Who All Were Present In The Meeting?

Several Union Cabinet ministers, Ministers of State (independent charge) were present in the meeting, including:

Amit Shah

Rajnath Singh

Nirmala Sitharaman

S Jaishankar

JP Nadda

Manohar Lal Khattar

Piyush Goyal

Jitan Ram Manjhi

Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu

Shivraj Singh Chouhan

HD Kumaraswamy

Dharmendra Pradhan

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat

Pralhad Joshi

The cabinet meeting was followed by the PMO’s relocation to ‘Seva Teerth’. This marked the end of an era, as all government departments vacated the North and South blocks — the seat of power since 1921.

The North and South blocks have been the seat of power in the country since 1921. Earlier, the Home Ministry had moved out of the North Block complex at Raisina Hills in Lutyens’ Delhi.

All About Seva Teerth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Seva Teerth complex, the new Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), marking the end of nearly 80 years of operations from South Block at Raisina Hill in New Delhi.

This is the first time the PMO has shifted out of South Block, marking a historic administrative transition after nearly eight decades. Since Independence in 1947, the PMO had operated from South Block, part of the British-era Secretariat complex designed by Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker.

The Seva Teerth complex comprises three structures:

Seva Teerth-1: Houses the PMO with modern workspaces and ceremonial meeting halls.

Seva Teerth-2: Occupied by the Cabinet Secretariat.

Seva Teerth-3: Will host the National Security Council Secretariat and the Office of the National Security Advisor.

Seva Teerth features open-plan interiors, encrypted communications systems, advanced security frameworks and integrated administrative spaces aimed at improving coordination.

What Happens To North & South Blocks?

The North and South Blocks would be transformed into the world’s largest museum.

The Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum is a landmark project designed to document over 5,000 years of Indian civilisational history. Spanning a massive 1.55 lakh square metres, it is set to surpass the British Museum and the Louvre in scale. The name itself, “Yuge Yugeen Bharat", translates from Sanskrit as “everlasting India," reflecting the nation’s unbroken heritage from the Vedic period to the digital age.
