The Bengaluru City Police arrested five persons, including three individuals from other States and two residents, for allegedly selling banned narcotic substances in the limits of Ashok Nagar and Malleswaram Police Stations.

Police seized 3 kg and 686 grams of hydro ganja from the accused. The value of the seized contraband is estimated at ₹1.28 crore, while its market value is said to be around ₹2.56 crore.

The police had received information on different occasions that banned hydro ganja was being illegally sold in Ashok Nagar and Malleswaram. Cases were registered under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act), following which raids were conducted at various locations.

During the operations, five accused were taken into custody. The police said the accused confessed during interrogation that they had procured the banned narcotic substance at lower prices from suppliers from other States and local contacts, with the intention of earning huge profits by selling it to the public and college students.

The police also stated that efforts are under way to trace other persons involved in supplying the hydro ganja to the accused.

The five accused were produced before the court on different dates, and the court remanded all of them to judicial custody.
