Florida passes law to rename Palm Beach International Airport as President Donald J. Trump International Airport by July 2026, FAA reviewing new DJT code

The renaming would add to a growing list of landmarks and initiatives bearing Trump’s name, reflecting his strong political and personal ties to Florida.
Florida’s Palm Beach International Airport could soon be renamed after US President Donald Trump, following new legislation signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis.
The bill, passed by the state’s House and Senate last month, proposes renaming the airport to “President Donald J. Trump International Airport." The change will take effect once approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), with July 1, 2026, set as the target date.
If cleared, the airport—currently known by its code PBI—could also receive a new designation: “DJT." Officials said updates would extend to maps, records, and federal aviation databases. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the Federal Aviation Administration is already working on changing that code, CNN reported.
Hailing the development, the US President’s son, Eric Trump, said, “Palm Beach International Airport is now officially…. “President Donald J. Trump International Airport! Proud to have played a small role in making this happen. Huge thanks to @megforflorida, @GovRonDeSantis, @JamesUthmeierFL, and the overwhelming majority in the Florida House!"
The proposal was introduced by Florida state Representative Meg Weinberger, who has backed efforts to honor Trump in the state. Last year, he was also present at the unveiling of signage for the newly renamed “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard," the four-mile stretch between the airport and Trump’s private club formerly known as Southern Boulevard.
“I am proud to have played a role in to make that happen, and I’m looking forward to the airport where greatness takes off," Weinberger, a Republican, said at the time.
Trump, a native of New York, moved to Florida in 2019, with his Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach becoming his primary residence since then.
Along with the renamed airport and road, the US President or his allies have sought to put his likeness or name on numerous other entities, including the Kennedy Center, the US Institute of Peace, the administration’s prescription drug website and its high-dollar “gold card" visa, coins and a fighter jet, among others.
The Florida airport becomes the latest in a series of buildings, institutions, and money, among other things, to bear Trump’s name. Last week, the US Treasury announced that American paper currency would bear Trump’s signature starting in summer this year, marking the first time a sitting US President has signed American dollars.
Earlier this month, the US Commission of Fine Arts voted unanimously to approve a design for a 24-karat gold coin intended to mark America’s 250th year of independence, which will bear an image of Trump with his hands pressed against a desk.
