Summer arrived unusually early in northern India this year, with several states witnessing intense heat as early as March. By April, the heatwave had intensified to levels usually associated with peak summer months like May and June.

But one particular day — April 27 — stood out dramatically. According to data compiled by AQI.in, all of the world’s 50 hottest cities that day were in India, most of them located in the northern region. Notably, the list did not feature a single city from West Asia, Africa or even Australia in the top 50 rankings.

The hottest city was Banda, located around 200 km from Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 46.2 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature remained as high as 34.7 degrees Celsius.
