HYDERABAD

One more unit, fourth of the 5×800 Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS), a super critical thermal power generation facility, completed the commercial operation declaration (COD) process on Wednesday night after it was operated continuously for 72 hours to make it commercially operational. The unit clocked generating an average 811.99 megawatt power against its rated capacity of 800 MW during the process.

The COD operation was completed around 20 hours on May 13 in the presence of Chairman and Managing Director of the Telangana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (TG-Genco) S. Harish. Of the five units of 800 MW each coming up as part of the project being established near Veerlapalem village of Damaracherla mandal in Nalgonda district, units one and two as part of stage-one and unit four as part of stage-two were already made commercially operational and supplying power to meet the State’s demands. Unit three of the stage-two was declared commercially operational on Wednesday.

Now, only unit five of the stage-two is to be made commercially operational to complete the project. Engineers of BHEL were present during the COD process along with Director (Thermal) of TG-Genco Y. Rajashekhar Reddy, Executive Director (Thermal) B. Lakshmaiah, Chief Engineer YTPS V. Ramesh Babu and others. Chief Engineers V. Prabhakar of Southern Discom and K. Venkata Ramana of Northern Discom also witnessed the COD process.
