GCC emphasises compliance with waste management rules

The Greater Chennai Corporation will amp up implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 by mandating online registration for all Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) across the city.

According to a press release, establishments meeting prescribed criteria must register through the GCC’s dedicated online portal within 15 days of receiving notice from zonal officers.

The department warned that failure to comply would invite penal action under the Rules. The Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, issued by the Union government, came into effect on April 1, 2026.
