New Delhi: Google has recently started rolling out its Now Playing feature as a separate application for Pixel devices. The application is now available on the Google Play Store, marking the shift from how the feature was previously delivered on the Pixel devices. Now Playing has been built directly into Pixel devices through Android System Intelligence.
It quietly works in the background, identifying songs playing nearby and displaying the track name and artist on the lock screen. The users did not need to open an application or manually activate the feature; it recognized music automatically.
Now Playing tool in the dedicated application, the core functionality remains the same, and the standalone versions also add a more organized interface. The application shows the central icon that the users can tap to check which song is playing around them manually. This gives the users more direct control instead of relying only on the automatic detection.
The application also includes a Now Playing history section. This enables the users to see the list of songs that were previously identified. They can manage their history and even listen to the recognized tracks using their preferred music streaming services. This makes the feature more interactive compared to the earlier background-only experience.
Access to the application might not be available to everyone. An automatic update was required before the application could be opened. The settings page of the application was accessible. Pixel users can now download and use the feature in the application form rather than relying solely on system-level integration.
