Government-run hostel matron suspended after expelling student for requesting blanket

A government-run hostel matron, Swapna, was suspended on Monday (June 29, 2026) following an inquiry into the forced expulsion of a student from the hostel at Chintalapudi in Eluru district

According to preliminary reports, the matron allegedly expelled an eighth-grade student from the hostel around 10 p.m. after the girl asked for a blanket on Saturday (June 27). The matron summoned her parents and handed her over to them.

The girl, a native of Pragadavaram village in Eluru district, was studying at a nearby government school. Even as the girl’s parents requested that she be allowed to return to the hostel, the matron denied their request and sent her home. A detailed inquiry into the incident is ongoing, the Eluru district officials said.
