A 23-year-old man in Gujarat, who was initially reported to have died by suicide, was allegedly killed by his parents over his alcohol addiction. The incident occurred on June 30 in the Gundala village of Rajkot, when the deceased’s parents killed him and tried to disguise his death as suicide.

However, a thorough investigation and an autopsy test revealed that the man –– identified as Ram Babubhai Bambhava –– was murdered by his parents. After the post-mortem report, his wife filed a formal complaint against her in-laws as their role in Ram’s death came to the surface, according to NDTV. 

Police said Ram had a severe drinking problem, which often led to heated arguments with his father, Babubhai alias Atulbhai Ghughabhai Bambhava, and his mother, Manishaben alias Motiben.

On the day of the incident, June 30, the parents had a violent altercation with their son over his drinking habits. Amid the heated dispute, the mother forced her son to drink acid. The father allegedly assaulted him and later strangled him to death.

In a bid to pass off the crime as suicide, Babubhai used his local political contacts. He approached local leaders to speed up his son’s post-mortem at Gondal Civil Hospital, NDTV reported, citing police.

As police began a probe into the incident, the role of the deceased’s parents came to light with autopsy findings revealing that Ram’s death was caused by poisoning and strangulation.

A case has been registered against Babubhai and Motiben and a further probe remains underway into the matter.
