Gujarat Man Sells Wife For Rs 50,000 To His Friends; She Gets Gangraped For 10 Days

Seven persons, including the husband, were arrested in connection with the case, police said.

In a shocking case reported from Gujarat’s Banaskantha district, a man sold his wife for Rs 50,000 to his friends. As per the police, the victim was subjected to repeated rape and abuse for 10 days.

The incident came to light during the investigation of a missing person complaint that the husband himself had filed earlier this month at the Palanpur West police station, PTI reported.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Jignesh Gamit, the husband lodged a complaint on May 11, claiming that his wife had gone missing from Palanpur city. However, within two days of filing the complaint, he also went missing. His disappearance prompted his father to register another missing person complaint at the Palanpur East police station.

“This sequence of events raised suspicion during the investigation," Gamit said.

Police teams subsequently traced the husband and later located his wife. During her formal statement to the authorities, the alleged crime was exposed.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the husband had allegedly sold his wife to his friends for Rs 50,000. The victim told police that the accused repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted her. She further alleged that they forcibly took her jewellery and sold it to local jewellers.

Based on her statement, a case was registered at the Palanpur West police station under sections related to rape, human trafficking, criminal conspiracy and other offences. Seven persons, including the husband, were arrested in connection with the case, police said.

Investigators also discovered that the main accused has a criminal history.

“In the past, he has been involved in cases where he lured and abducted girls despite being married. The police are investigating those past offences as well," Gamit added.
