Gulki Joshi finalised to play Dr Srishti in Yaadein as Ekta Kaul bows out - Exclusive

Gulki Joshi and Ekta Kaul

Ekta Kaul, who was set to return to television after nine years with Hui Gumm Yaadein: Ek Doctor, Do Zindagiyaan, has opted out of the medical drama. Her previous show, Mere Angne Mein, went off air nine years ago.

The makers have now roped in talented actress Gulki Joshi to step into the role of Dr Srishti. Confirming the development, Ekta said she had to leave the show due to a family emergency. “Yes, I am not part of the show anymore. I had to opt out as my mother fell unwell, and I needed to rush back to Chandigarh to be by her side,” she told us. Gulki Joshi, who will return to television three years after her popular stint as Haseena Malik in Maddam Sir, could not be reached for comment. Hui Gumm Yaadein: Ek Doctor, Do Zindagiyaan is the Indian adaptation of the globally acclaimed Italian series DOC, which has been successfully remade in several countries. The show explores themes of second chances, identity, and emotional resilience. The narrative follows Dr Dev, played by Iqbal Khan, a brilliant doctor who must rebuild his life after losing eight years of his memory in a life-altering accident. Dr Srishti, his ex-wife, is a strong and intelligent woman who stepped away from medical practice to raise their children and later took on the administrative responsibilities of the hospital where Dr Dev worked.

Before her exit, Ekta had spoken about her emotional connection with the character and how it mirrored her own life choices. In an earlier conversation with us, she shared, “A lot of my inspiration for this character comes from my own life. After completing my work commitments in 2023, I consciously took a step back to spend time with my son, Ved. I wanted to experience life at a slower and more mindful pace. Staying at home, managing daily tasks, and spending time with him made me feel calm and content.

She added, “It was different from working on set, but equally fulfilling. I brought those emotions into my character, Srishti, who is also learning to adapt to a new phase in life. That emotional connection helped me understand the role better and perform it more honestly.”
