The Chittoor police received the donation of an advanced thermal surveillance drone by Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, chairperson of the Apollo Group, here on Friday (February 20). The high-end DJI Matrice 4T drone, valued around ₹6.5 lakh, is intended for strengthening modern policing, surveillance and emergency response in the district.
Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi said the drone was equipped with high-resolution thermal imaging, RTK-enabled precision location tracking and a multi-sensor camera system. It can fly for up to 40 minutes continuously. The platform also features 360-degree obstacle detection and automatic avoidance, enabling safer and more accurate operations.
The drone will aid night-time surveillance, detection of suspicious movements, monitoring of forest and hilly terrain and faster identification of victims during search-and-rescue operations. With optional loudspeakers and high-intensity searchlights, it can support disaster response, public announcements and crowd management, the SP said.
