A major security concern has surfaced at the revered Mata Vaishno Devi shrine after a social media content creator allegedly recorded restricted areas using a hidden camera concealed inside a pair of eyeglasses. The incident has sparked outrage among devotees and led to stricter security measures at the pilgrimage site.

According to officials, the influencer is believed to have filmed portions of the pilgrimage route and the Bhawan complex, including the sanctum sanctorum an area where photography and videography are strictly prohibited due to security and religious considerations. The footage later appeared on social media and quickly went viral, raising serious questions about how such sensitive zones were recorded despite multiple security checks.

In response, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board lodged a formal complaint with the police on February 11, 2026. An FIR has been registered at the Bhawan Police Station against the accused.

Authorities have launched a detailed probe to determine how the concealed device bypassed security screening and whether there were any lapses in the checking process. Officials are also examining if any internal negligence contributed to the breach.

The episode has triggered widespread criticism online, with devotees voicing concern over the sanctity and safety of one of India’s most visited religious sites. Following the backlash, the content creator reportedly removed the video from her Instagram account.

The Shrine Board and police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict security protocols and warned that any violation of established rules will invite firm legal action. Pilgrims have been urged to adhere to guidelines and report suspicious activity to safeguard the shrine’s sanctity.
