The Chavara Police have arrested a Bangladeshi couple who had been living illegally in the Chavara region of Kollam district after entering India without valid documents. The arrested individuals have been identified as Milan Khan, aged 47, and his wife, Mughal Khandal, aged 42. They are residents of Gulsha Gali, Ward 4, in the Bagerhat district near the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka. The arrest followed a targeted operation by the Chavara Police based on confidential information received by Kollam District Police Chief (City Police) M. Hemalatha.

During the inspection conducted on the evening of June 6, 2026, the police discovered that the couple had entered the country illegally and lacked passports, visas, or any legitimate residency permits required to stay in India. Investigations revealed that the duo had been moving across various locations in India for years, earning a livelihood as scrap collectors. They arrived in Kerala a decade ago, spending seven years in Chalakudy before moving between Karunagappally and Chavara over the last three years.

Following the verification of their illegal status, the Chavara Police registered a case against the couple under the relevant provisions of the Foreigners Act and placed them under arrest. District Police Chief (City Police) said that foreign nationals residing in the country without legal documents or forging fake identity cards constitutes a serious offense. She added that stringent inspections will continue in the region to detect and prevent such violations of law.
