Heavy rainfall brought relief from the heat in Delhi on Tuesday afternoon, prompting the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue red and orange alert for rainfall and strong winds across the city. According to IMD’s district-level nowcast, parts of north Delhi were placed under a red alert, with moderate rain at several locations and heavy rain at isolated places, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and wind speeds of up to 70 kmph. The rest of the capital was put under an orange alert, with moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph expected in most areas.
