Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday described his meeting with Sam Altman as “very good," highlighting India’s rapid strides in artificial intelligence and inviting the world to invest in the country’s growing AI ecosystem.

Sharing a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “It was a very good meeting indeed. India is making immense strides in the world of AI. We invite the world to invest in our talented youth and add vigour to this sector," while tagging OpenAI.

Altman, who also posted about the interaction, said he had a “great meeting" with PM Modi to discuss the “incredible energy around AI in India." He noted that India is now OpenAI’s fastest-growing market for Codex globally, with weekly users increasing fourfold in just the past two weeks.

The meeting comes amid India’s push to position itself as a global AI hub, with the government emphasising responsible and inclusive AI development. PM Modi has repeatedly underlined the need for AI that is human-centric and beneficial to society, while also encouraging innovation and startup growth.

The interaction between the Prime Minister and the OpenAI chief signals deepening engagement between global AI leaders and India, as the country seeks to harness artificial intelligence for economic growth, digital empowerment and technological leadership.
