'Influencers Need Jail Time’: Americans Facing Jail Time After Jumping Inside Baby Punch's Enclosure For Content

The line between viral marketing and criminal nuisance has officially been crossed, and global travellers are paying the price. As per reports, two American nationals were arrested on May 17 in Japan after one of them allegedly entered the enclosure of Punch the Monkey, a nine-month-old macaque who went viral and became a worldwide sensation after befriending a stuffed animal following his abandonment. The Ichikawa Police Department has identified two American suspects, Jahnai Dayson, a 24-year-old university student, and Neal Jabahri Duan, 27, who identifies as a singer, were involved in the incident at Ichikawa City Zoo.

The authorities claim Dayson was the one who climbed over a fence and entered Punch’s enclosure at Ichikawa City Zoo while Duan filmed him. In footage of the trespassing incident, a person wearing an emoji costume climbs over the barrier surrounding the habitat for Punch and the zoo’s other macaque monkeys. The costumed person then drops a small stuffed toy near a mound covered in monkeys. The animals all back away when the costumed person approaches.

The Internet Is Furious: X Explodes Over ‘Nuisance’ Culture

As footage of the reckless marketing stunt spread across social media, people did not mince their words. Some were concerned about whether Japanese authorities will be strict towards these individuals. “I’m worried about whether be prosecuted because Japan’s judiciary is lenient toward foreigners."

Another user added: “How is this not an immediate deportation and travel ban?"

Most users were of the opinion that influencers at large needed to be controlled and brought to order. “Nuisance influencers need maximum jail time with hard labor. F**k them. Harassing people in public spaces for content cannot be tolerated as a career path."

Many users were also embarassed that the act was committed by Americans. “American “promote at all costs" culture on full display… sad. Can we disown them?"

Some suggested the right level of punishment for the accused. “Japan should arrest and prosecute offenders for up to two years, followed by a five-year (or longer) entry ban upon release. The country has every right to crack down on unacceptable behavior, but it shouldn’t punish well-behaved visitors for the actions of a few. Target the individuals who cause the problems, enforce real consequences, and let everyone else enjoy the country without collective restrictions"

But one user took the cake with their slightly extreme suggestion: “Put them in the tiger cage and see how long the “viral marketing campaign" lasts."
