A US official on Wednesday said that a 10-point ceasefire plan published by Iran does not match the terms agreed by US President Donald Trump for pausing the war.

“The document being reported by media outlets is not the working framework," the senior official told AFP on condition of anonymity, declining to share further details. “We’re not going to negotiate in public out of respect for the process," the official added.

The clarification has raised fresh doubts over the stability of the fragile truce announced early Wednesday, just hours before a deadline set by Trump for Iran to meet US demands or face what he called an end to its “whole civilization."

While announcing the ceasefire, Trump had said Washington received a 10-point proposal from Tehran and called it as a “workable basis" for talks.

Iran’s version includes continued control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of all international sanctions, and acceptance of its uranium enrichment programme—conditions that run counter to Washington’s public position.
