As strikes continue in Lebanon, the Israeli military on Wednesday asked residents of southern Lebanon to leave as the military will “work with extreme force" against Hezbollah group.

The Israeli-Lebanon war started on March 2after Hezbollah fired rockets towards northern Israel in solidarity with Iran. So far, over one million people in Lebanon have been displaced and over 3,200 were killed, according to the health ministry.

According to Associated Press, the Israeli troops have crossed the Litani River, edging closer to the southern city of Nabatiyeh.

The latest warning comes a day after Israeli troops clashed with Hezbollah along a strategic river in southern Lebanon, with Israeli forces pushing farther north, days ahead of talks in Washington between Lebanese and Israeli delegations.

AP reported that previously the Israeli military had called on the residents of southern cities of Nabatiyeh and the city of Tyre along the Mediterranean coast to leave and stay away from it, saying there were Hezbollah members and military posts there.

On Tuesday, the Israeli Army confirmed that it has begun operating beyond southern Lebanon’s so-called “yellow line" a day after it launched a fresh wave of airstrikes across Lebanon following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s call to “crush" Hezbollah amid soaring cross-border tensions.

“The IDF is operating in a targeted manner beyond the Forward Defence Line in order to remove direct threats to the citizens of the State of Israel and IDF troops, in accordance with the directives of the political echelon," an Israeli military official told AFP on Tuesday, without offering specific details on the location of the soldiers.

As per Israeli reports, troops have been carrying out targeted intelligence-based raids beyond the forward defensive line and north of the Litani River, where Hezbollah maintains infrastructure and operational footholds. Until now, Israeli troops have been operating inside the ‘Yellow Line’, where they have carried out large-scale demolitions despite a ceasefire in effect since April 17.

The development came alongside intensified Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon, with the military striking more than 100 Hezbollah targets.
