In a major breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Hurera, a long-standing infiltrator and mastermind of safe-house and funding operations in the Harwan belt near Srinagar. Sources say the operation dismantled key elements of a Pakistani-funded LeT network that had operated in the region since 2011.
Hurera, who infiltrated J&K over a decade ago, had entrenched himself in villages, including Gassu, Wanihoma, Chaterhama, and Denihama, using the Harwan area as a crucial logistical and support hub for LeT operations. According to top police officials, Hurera married the daughter of Gh Mohammad, a member of Jamaat-e-Islami, to embed himself within the local socio-religious network and gain trust in the community.
Police sources revealed Hurera’s network was involved in criminal and violent activities, including the repeated rape of Dar’s cousin sister, highlighting personal vendettas within the LeT’s local ecosystem.
Hurera also played a key role in terrorist funding. In 2011, LeT channelled significant funds through him to local associates, and he used his residence as a safe house, providing shelter and sustenance for militants. Authorities say he transported money from Saudi Arabia via Hajj and Umrah travel agents, including Yaseen Mir, further facilitating cross-border financing.
The operative had cultivated deep contacts inside Kashmir University, frequently hiding in the Naseem Bagh campus to evade arrest during prior police operations in 2022-2023.
“This arrest sends a clear message," said a senior J&K police official, “that even long-active Pakistani LeT operatives, using multiple layers of cover, including family ties, university hideouts, and funding channels, cannot operate with impunity."
