Jutta Leerdam added another proud moment to her Winter Olympics journey on Sunday in Milan. The Dutch speed skater won silver in the women’s 500m final, just six days after taking gold in the 1000m.

This was her second medal at the Games, and it quickly became a huge talking point back home in the Netherlands. Soon after the race, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof shared a public message on X. He congratulated both Jutta Leerdam and fellow skater Femke Kok for winning gold and silver in the same event. The race took place at the Milano Speed Skating stadium, where the Netherlands showed strong form once again. Jutta Leerdam skated in the twelfth pair and finished in 37.15 seconds.

At that point, she moved into first place and locked in a medal spot for her country. No one could beat her time until the final pair hit the ice.Femke Kok, who had already been close behind Leerdam in the 1000m earlier at these Games, delivered a stunning skate. She crossed the line in 36.49 seconds, setting an Olympic record and winning gold. The time was 0.66 seconds faster than Leerdam’s. With that victory, Kok became the first Dutch woman to win Olympic gold in the 500m.

Prime Minister Dick Schoof wrote, “Incredible! Gold AND silver for the Netherlands in the women’s 500m.

Femke Kok makes history and Jutta Leerdam also delivers a performance of real magnitude. Heartfelt congratulations to both of you, hugely deserved!”

After the race, Femke Kok spoke honestly about the pressure she felt. She said, “So many people expected I would win. And I put myself under a lot of pressure as well.

If you always win, then you want to win again. But everything has to be right and I know how difficult that can be.”Jutta Leerdam also shared her feelings, especially about the support from Jake Paul. She said, “I’ve been supportive, but I’ve not been able to go to his past fights because of skating. It would be nice to be there more. He has supported me a lot more and has come to many of my races, so I’m very grateful. Also, my family – I’m just so grateful for the support system around me.

It’s amazing.”Earlier in the week, when Leerdam won gold in the 1000m with a time of 1:12.31, cameras showed Jake Paul in tears. Before that race, he had written, “Today is your day baby. You’ve worked your whole life for this. We all love and support you so much. Go get em champ.” After her win, he added, “Juttttttttttaaaaaaaa. I can’t stop crying. You did it my love. Olympic Gold. God is great and so are you.”With one gold and one silver in Milan, plus praise from her Prime Minister, Jutta Leerdam leaves these Games with medals, records, and strong national recognition.
