Ranchi: The Jitiya festival, symbolizing the deep bond between mothers and their children, was celebrated with religious fervor and devotion across the state on Sunday. Women observed a day-long nirjala fast (without food and water) and offered prayers for the well-being and long life of their children.Devotees thronged temples to perform the traditional Jivitputrika vrat. “For us mothers, Jitiya is not just a ritual but an emotional bond with our children. We pray with all our heart that they remain healthy, happy, and successful in life,” Amrita Devi, a resident of Police Line, said.Women sang Jitiya geet narrating stories of the mythological character associated with sacrifice and protection of life.Rekha Kumari, a resident of Morabadi, said, “Though fasting without water is difficult, the love for our children gives us strength. This festival connects us to our roots and traditions.”
