The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has invited bids for procuring power to meet the peak-time demand during the period from June 15 to December 31 this year.

The power utility is seeking 400 MW for the second half of June, and for August and September, 300 MW in July, and 500 MW each in October, November and December, according to the tender document.

The tender has been issued through the Discovery of Efficient Electricity Price (DEEP) e-bidding portal.

During June, July, August and September, the supply is sought for the time-frame 6.30 p.m. to midnight and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. during October, November and December.

The KSEB is seeking the supplies from power generating companies, other State utilities, captive power producers, distribution licencees and State Electricity Boards. The opening of the initial public offers is slated for May 22.

During the height of the 2026 summer, the KSEB had faced a sudden spike in consumption due to the unexpected increase in summer temperatures. The power utility had attributed it to the dependence on air-conditioners, electric vehicle charging in the evening hours, and a shift to electric cooking due to the LPG shortage caused by the West Asia crisis.
