Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan met on the sets of ‘Neighbours’ and fell in love. After dating for a couple of years in the late 80s, they decided to split, despite being one of the favorite couples on television.
Immediately after their knot dissolved, Minogue began dating the late Michael Hutchence until 1991. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1997. While refreshing his memory, Jason Donovan remembered how he and the singer met Hutchence for the first time.
“He [Hutchence] was not interested in me. “‘Love hurts, mate,’ that is the quote, and he’s not wrong. It does sometimes, so I appreciated his honesty so much. And hilarious. And F-bombs. He’s so Jason Donovan. I can see just him being him,” she said during a conversation with Variety. While she talked about a lot of first-time moments with Hutchence, she realised that Donovan was a huge part of her life as well.
“We stumbled into fame together. We were rocking up to “Neighbours” every day.
Then we were dating, then we were navigating mayhem. Mayhem! So props to Jason,” she stated.
When Jason Donovan opened up about his first love
Previously, Donovan opened up about the tragic breakup and the unwithered scar. Claiming that Kylie Minogue was his first love, he said that the split was not easy at all for him. “She and I were so connected personally and professionally, it's a very difficult relationship to escape. And not only that, we were in everyone's living room across the world. It's quite a unique position,” he said during an interview with Big Issue in 2025.
Despite the entire showdown, the duo has remained friends over the years and stood strong in support of each other.The docu-series, ‘Kylie,’ can be watched on Netflix.
