The state of Spanish football and more importantly, the fan culture, has reached an all-time low — and the RFEF have had enough.

La Liga has strongly condemned threats and intimidation directed at Sevilla FC players and club officials following their latest defeat.

The backlash comes after Sevilla slumped to a third straight league loss, going down 1-0 to bottom-placed Real Oviedo on Sunday.

Tensions Spill Over

Frustration among supporters boiled over upon the team’s return, with some fans confronting players at the airport, hurling insults. Others — some reportedly masked — gathered outside the club’s training ground in a more menacing show of anger.

This isn’t an isolated incident either. Earlier this season, sections of the fanbase attempted to force their way into the training facility to confront players directly.

“Unacceptable" Line Crossed

La Liga didn’t mince words in its response.

This behaviour, the league said, “unacceptably crosses the line of legitimate criticism and sporting expression."

It went further, drawing a clear distinction between passionate support and outright misconduct.

“Anyone who crosses the line from criticism into threats, intimidation, or harassment stops acting as a fan and starts acting as a violent individual," the statement read. “And against violent individuals, La Liga acts and will act."

Authorities to Step In

The league confirmed it will report the incidents to Spanish authorities and continue taking action against similar behaviour in the future.

On the pitch, things aren’t much better.

Sevilla are winless in five matches and sit just two points above the relegation zone with eight games left, a precarious position for a club of their stature.

With results faltering and tensions rising off the pitch, Sevilla find themselves battling on two fronts, fighting to stay up while trying to restore calm within their own fanbase.
