A late-night crash involving a speeding luxury car has left a 23-year-old woman dead and her colleague seriously injured in North Goa, with police arresting a businessman’s son in connection with the incident.

The accident took place on Sunday night in the Dona Paula area, where a Mini Cooper allegedly driven by 22-year-old Darius Dias rammed into a motorcycle carrying the two hotel employees.

The impact was severe, with the motorcycle thrown several feet away from the point of collision, indicating the force of the crash. The woman, who worked at a five-star hotel, died in the accident, while her male colleague sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.

Police arrested Dias on Monday, an official said. The car involved, a yellow Mini Cooper, appeared to be brand new and still had decorative ribbons on its doors, suggesting it had been recently purchased. It was also bearing a temporary number plate, typically used before registration with the Regional Transport Office.

The circumstances leading to the crash are under investigation. Authorities are examining whether speed played a role in the collision that turned a routine commute into a fatal accident.
