'Maa Behen' star Dharna Durga says Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri were acting institution: 'It really was like being in film school on set'
Dharna Durga's transition from digital creator to actor has been one of the year's most talked-about breakthroughs. With Netflix's 'Maa Behen,' the comedian shares screen space with industry veterans Madhuri Dixit and Ravi Kishan, alongside Triptii Dimri, in director Suresh Triveni's comedy thriller. While stepping into a full-length feature was a significant milestone, Dharna says the experience became an acting masterclass, thanks to her co-stars' generosity and talent.
Working alongside Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri became a learning experience
Moving from short-form social media content to a feature film demanded a completely different approach to performance. Dharna admits she is still discovering the craft of acting, and credits 'Maa Behen' for accelerating that learning curve.Reflecting on her experience, she said, “I personally am still trying to understand the depths of film acting. Every day on set I was learning something new. But I think at the heart of any craft is honesty.
And that truly has been my guide from Instagram to the big screen.”Sharing scenes with Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri proved invaluable for Dharna, who observed every nuance of their performances while filming. She believes watching seasoned actors closely helped her better understand rhythm, timing and scene dynamics.Speaking about her co-stars, Dharna shared, “I think they have been huge contributors in helping me navigate my way.
I think any actor always falls on their co-actors to pick up nuances and make every scene fully cohesive. And when you are in the same frame as Madhuri ma’am and Tripti, it really was like being in film school on set. Every day I would learn something new, discover something they’d do that would further push me to do more.
Especially when it’s about comedy, getting every beat and timing right becomes so important, I think that would be my biggest takeaway from what I learned from them both.”
Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri made her feel like an equal
Despite being the newest member of the principal cast, Dharna says she never felt intimidated because her co-stars created an encouraging atmosphere throughout the shoot.Recalling their support, she said, “I think the biggest marker of giving and generous actors is always that they keep the story and the direction of the scene as their first priority. So when all three of us were on the same page with that, I think picking up the pace became so much easier.
And honestly, they have such big hearts, so much generosity. Even after having so much more experience than me, I never felt like they didn’t think of me as an equal, which I am so so grateful for, because it definitely took away a lot of the pressure from me.
”With 'Maa Behen,' Dharna Durga has taken a major step beyond social media, but she says the fundamentals remain unchanged. Whether creating a reel or performing in a feature film, her focus continues to be on telling honest, relatable stories while constantly learning from every new experience.
