MACT awards ₹1.05 crore to road accident victim

The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT), Manjeri, has awarded ₹1.05 crore as compensation to a young man who was left with about 80% permanent physical and mental disability following a road accident. The award was granted to Mubashir, a native of Kizhissery.

The accident took place on November 3, 2021, when Mubashir was walking along the roadside and was hit by a motorcycle that lost control. He sustained severe head injuries.

Despite prolonged hospitalisation and multiple surgeries, his condition did not fully improve. A medical board later certified 80% permanent disability, both physical and mental.

Relying on this assessment, the tribunal granted compensation, which is to be paid by United India Insurance Company, the insurer of the vehicle involved.
