MANGALURU: Bantwal police arrested a resident of Sajipa Munnuru for allegedly filing a false complaint of an armed attack after an investigation allegedly revealed the case to be fabricated.
According to the police, the accused is Umar Farooq, 48.The accused filed a complaint stating that on June 11, early in the morning, while he was travelling by jeep from Nandavar towards Deralakatte, two unidentified persons attacked him with a sword near Deraje bus stop in Sajipanadu village and attempted to kill him. Based on this complaint, a case was registered at Bantwal Rural Police Station under Sections 109, 324(4) read with 3(5) of BNS-2023.However, upon investigation, it was established that the case was false, police said on Wednesday. A report to this effect was submitted to the court. Further investigation revealed that Umar Farooq allegedly incited the public, attempted to provoke unrest, created fear among the community, and deliberately filed a false complaint with baseless accusations. Accordingly, a fresh case was registered against him at Bantwal Rural Police Station under Sections 192, 353(1)(b), 230(1), and 248(A) of the BNS.The accused was arrested and produced before the ACJ and JMFC Court, Bantwal, which remanded him to judicial custody till Sept 6.
