The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) in a joint operation arrested a thief, Sk. Abdul Rahman, who stole from passengers on running trains. The accused committed thefts in various trains and escaped, said GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) G. Ratna Raju.

Addressing the media here on Thursday, the DSP said that the accused, a native of Sangadigunta in Guntur, had committed a theft in A1 coach of Bhagat Ki Kothi–MGR Chennai Central Super Fast Express on August 16.

Following a complaint, the GRP, in association with RPF Crime Intelligence Branch, investigated the case and identified the movements of the accused using CCTV footages, said GRP Circle Inspector (CI) J.V. Ramana. RPF CI Fateh Ali Baig and Crime Intelligence Branch Inspector K. Madhusudhan Rao arrested Abdul Rahman at Jai Hind Complex in Vijayawada on Thursday.

“We have seized gold ornaments, a laptop, mobile phones, all worth ₹10.61 lakh,” Mr. Madhusudhan Rao said. The accused committed four thefts in a short period. He would be produced along with the seized property, said Mr. Fateh Ali Baig.
