A tantrik in Gumla has been sentenced to death for the brutal rape of a physically challenged minor in 2022. The court also imposed life imprisonment and a hefty fine on Sanjay Vishwakarma, who had posed as a healer. The crime came to light when the victim's critical condition led to the discovery of her pregnancy during a hospital examination.
Gumla: The court of additional sessions judge - 4 and Pocso court Sanjiv Bhatia on Monday awarded capital punishment to a tantrik for raping a physically challenged minor in 2022.
The court also pronounced life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the accused.The accused — Sanjay Vishwakarma — is a resident of Ichak police station of Hazaribag district.The court pronounced the punishment of hanging the accused till death under section 6 of Pocso Act. It also awarded life imprisonment and Rs 1 lakh monetary penalty under section 376 (3) of the IPC and seven years imprisonment and Rs 10,000 monetary penalty under section 430 of the IPC to the accused, said Sudhir Toppo, additional public prosecutor.In 2022, the guilty had assured the parents of the girl of healing her with herbal medicines. He used to visit her house and stay in a separate room on the pretext of treating her, but kept raping the girl. On Aug 26, when her condition became critical, she was admitted to sadar hospital where during medical examination, pregnancy was confirmed.Parents later lodged a complaint against the accused with the police.
