Man killed in elephant attack while sleeping in Palakkad

A man was killed in a wild elephant attack while sleeping under a tree in front of his house at Malampuzha in the district in the early hours of Thursday.

The victim, A. Chandran, 56, a former hospital attendant, was sleeping under a tamarind tree along with two others when the elephant charged at them around 4.30 a.m. While the other two managed to escape, Chandran was unable to flee and was trampled to death.

His body was later shifted to the Government District Hospital in Palakkad.
