Marco Rubio India Visit Live Updates: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Kolkata on Saturday on his first official visit to India, ahead of high-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi later in the day.
Confirming his arrival, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said the visit would focus on strengthening bilateral ties across key sectors, including trade, technology, defence cooperation and the QUAD partnership.
“Secretary Marco Rubio has landed in Kolkata. This is his first trip to India. Later today, we will call on Prime Minister @narendramodi in New Delhi. Trade, Technology, Defense, QUAD, and many other items to discuss and advance over the next few days!” Ambassador Gor posted on X.
The top US diplomat is also scheduled to hold extensive discussions with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday, with key focus areas expected to include trade, energy cooperation, investment, emerging technologies and people-to-people ties.
The visit is also significant in the context of the QUAD grouping, comprising India, the United States, Japan and Australia, as the four nations continue to deepen cooperation on maritime security, supply chains and emerging global challenges.
