Marques Brownlee, known as MKBHD, has finally spoken about a growing concern many creators are quietly thinking about, will AI take over YouTube? With the platform testing more artificial intelligence tools, some fear that creators could slowly become less important.
But Brownlee does not fully agree with that idea.At the same time, he is not ignoring the risks either. While he feels his own content may stay safe for now, he openly admitted that other types of channels could face real problems. His comments came during a conversation with Jon Youshaei, where he broke things down in a very simple and honest way.
Marques Brownlee explains why YouTube AI tools may not replace him but could impact other creators
Marques Brownlee made it clear that he still believes people come to YouTube for human connection, not just information.
He shared his thoughts when asked if AI tools like video summaries could make his content less useful.“People enjoy watching stuff that humans made,” Brownlee said. He admitted things could change in the future but still feels the human side matters a lot.“Maybe this is naive because we’re still pretty early with AI-generated videos, and they’re getting really good – people like watching them sometimes – but I think one of the reasons people watch my videos specifically is to hear what I have to say and what I’ve been thinking.”
He explained that his audience is not just looking for facts. They want his opinion and the way he explains things. “You’re watching my opinion on a thing and my choice on how to deliver that information. I, naively, maybe, think that’s what people will continue to come here for.”However, he did raise a serious concern for other creators. According to Brownlee, channels that focus only on sharing basic information could be affected more by AI tools like summaries.“That pure information grab is likely to be impacted by this,” he said. He pointed out that if someone only wants quick facts, they might just read a summary and leave instead of watching a full video. He added, “If you’re here for just the information, I guess you could open an MKBHD iPhone review and look at the summary text, go ‘alright, got it’ and leave, but at that point, why are you on YouTube?”Brownlee believes entertainment is still a big reason people watch videos.
“I think the entertainment value, the human part I talked about, all of that is also why people come to watch these videos and I think that they will probably still watch the video if they want that part.”Along with this, he also shared what he would change if he ran YouTube for a day. He said he would bring back the dislike button, showing he still values honest feedback on the platform. For now, AI may be growing fast, but Brownlee feels the human touch still has a strong place.
