Minister for Industries, Commerce and Food Processing T.G. Bharat Gupta on Thursday criticised former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy over his remarks on the State’s capital, alleging that it amounted to undermining constitutional and democratic institutions.
In a statement, Mr. Bharat Gupta said Amaravati attained permanent legal status after the Andhra Pradesh Assembly passed a resolution, Parliament approved the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the President gave her assent, making it law.
Reacting to Mr. Jagan’s reported assertion that he would contest the 2029 elections on the capital issue, the Minister said that reopening a constitutionally settled matter was unwarranted. He observed that seeking to alter Amaravati’s status was comparable to questioning the completed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The Minister said governments may change, but decisions taken by the Assembly and Parliament stand as sentinels of democracy. “What Andhra Pradesh needs now is investment, industries, jobs, and infrastructure rather than prolonged political uncertainty and controversies,” Mr. Bharat added.
