BHOPAL: A 36-year-old man narrowly escaped death after his brother-in-law allegedly shot him in the leg late on Tuesday night in the Godha Pahad area under Semariya police station limits of Rewa district.
The assailants later set fire to a car in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence, police said. The victim claimed before police that his brother-in-law was pressurising him to become a 'ghar jamai' (live with his in-laws), which he did not agree to. A dispute over this led to the incident, claimed the victim. The victim, Sameem Khan, a resident of Rewa, informed police that he was lured to the remote hill area by his in-laws under the pretext of a party.
There, he was allegedly given alcohol and then shot in the leg. The bullet, which could have been fatal, missed his chest and struck his leg, saving his life, he told police. "The victim claimed that he was being pressurised to become a 'ghar jamai' (live-in son-in-law) by his brother-in-law. He stayed at his wife's home for nearly seven months but eventually returned to his native village, which led to rising tensions.
