The 25-year-old Mumbai resident, Arbaaz Syed, is not just accused in a domestic violence case but is also known to police as a habitual offender with a long criminal history.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Mumbai for allegedly threatening to kill his wife, forcing her to remain in a punishment position for nearly four hours, and later attacking her with a knife, police said.

The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the RCF Police Station. The accused, identified as Arbaaz Syed, allegedly confined his wife inside their house after threatening her with a sword and warning that he would throw acid on her.

Police said Syed then forced the woman to remain in the humiliating “murga" position for around four hours.

The woman later managed to escape from the house and reached her parental home.

According to police, the accused subsequently went to her parents’ residence, created a ruckus and allegedly attacked his wife with a knife.

After receiving information about the incident, the police reached the spot and arrested Syed.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

According to police sources, Syed has amassed a record of 19 criminal cases at a relatively young age. His criminal dossier reportedly includes cases registered at various police stations across Mumbai involving theft, snatching, grievous assault, rioting, criminal intimidation and other serious offences.

Police said he has been arrested and jailed multiple times in connection with these cases, earning a reputation as a repeat offender in the locality.
