A man has been arrested in Nagpur for allegedly raping and defrauding a 31-year-old woman, whom he had met through a matrimonial website. The accused has been identified as 36-year-old Raghavendra Kishor Awasthi.
He allegedly cheated the complainant of Rs 14.8 lakh under the pretext of marriage. The woman has claimed that some of Awasthi's family members were also complicit in the illicit scheme.
The complainant has also alleged that the accused misled her by introducing himself as a divorced man and falsely claiming that his first wife was dead, when in fact she was alive.
According to the FIR, Awasthi demanded money from the woman on several occasions while claiming that he needed capital to set up a gym business.
The woman has claimed that she was mentally and physically harassed by the accused. Further investigation into the case is underway.
