Residents alleged the tanker supply has been insufficient to meet the daily needs of occupants
Navi Mumbai: A video that has gone viral on social media allegedly shows a prominent builder driving his SUV towards a group of protesting flat owners who had attempted to stop him, demanding answers over a prolonged water shortage at a residential complex in Kharghar’s Sector 35.The incident occurred after residents of the high-rise housing project sought a meeting with the builder to discuss the ongoing water crisis that has affected hundreds of families occupying flats in the complex. According to residents, despite investing crores of rupees in their homes, they continue to face inadequate water supply and are dependent on water tankers arranged by the developer.Residents alleged the tanker supply has been insufficient to meet the daily needs of occupants, leading to growing frustration among flat owners.Earlier in the day, a group of women residents reportedly entered the builder’s office to seek clarification on the measures being taken to address the water shortage. However, they claimed the builder avoided meeting them and later left the premises accompanied by personal security personnel. As the builder departed, five women along with a few other residents followed him to a nearby road, demanding a response to their grievances.
A video of the confrontation shows the builder’s SUV moving towards the group, prompting the women to move away from its path. The footage has since triggered widespread discussion on social media.Confirming the incident, local Congress leader Dr Swapnil Pawar said the affected residents were reluctant to speak publicly about the matter.Corporator Haresh Keni said a meeting with the residents has been scheduled to assess the extent of the water shortage and discuss possible solutions.“We will provide further updates after meeting the residents facing the water crisis on Saturday,” said Keni. -- Umesh K Parida
